A Sunday in mid-August would see this year’s Compak championship take place at Eriswell Lodge. A sunny start, followed by some heavy rain made life interesting for the first few squads out but this soon cleared drying them off ready for the rest of the day.

There were many smiling faces coming off the course with some great scores coming in from shooters from all counties, with Oliver Wilde taking the early lead in the Suffolk standings. Sadly, he would see two of our county veterans pip him to the top by 2 clays, which were Brian Jackson and Eric Chapman. With a tie for the two titles they headed out to shoot a full layout under a new sequence, which following the 25 targets would see another tie! After a further shoot off this year’s County Champion and Veterans Champion would go to Brian. In Juniors this year the title went to Tom McGregor on 93 closely followed by 9-year-old John Porter on 90!

Congratulations to all shooters, and thank you to the team of staff and referees at Eriswell for running this shoot for us. Above (right) are the (County) Championship and Class winners - The full results can be found here.

Suffolk Sporting Challenge - Eriswell Lodge, 30 June

Our final super-six championship of 2019 was to be the FITASC championship at Barrow Sporting Clays. We were faced with a downpour of rain and wind throughout the day which made the targets challenging for all who attended.

This years Suffolk Champion would be Lee Phillips after he scored a strong 84, he also took High Gun for the day. In Veterans the honours would go to Eric Chapman on 79, a shooter who is never to be underestimated. In Juniors it would again be the battle of the Colts, with Henry Lungley coming out at the top of the pile on 62 and in Ladies the honours would go to Charlotte Patten.

Thank you to all those who attended and to Barrows team of staff and referees who ran this event for the county.  Above (right) are the (County) Championship and Class winners - The full results can be found here.

The last Sunday in June saw a sunny day for some sporting clays! The hot weather with the slight breeze meant some of the targets were keeping shooters on their toes!

As the challenge awards can be won by anyone, it was going to be a battle for all shooters to see who could come out on the top of the leader board! This time the honours would go over the border to Dave Gooding of Norfolk for the High Gun awards. The ladies trophy would also follow going to Georgie Tillson, again from Norfolk with the juniors heading over to Essex with Harrison Willis and the veterans to Cambridgeshire with Brian Dunbavin.

Thank you to the team at Eriswell Lodge, and of course the referees for running this event for us and keeping it all running smoothly. Above (right) are the Challenge and Class winners - The full results can be found here.

Our final Wednesday night shoot of 2019 was the ABT Championship, which was held on June 26th at Eriswell Lodge. This would also be our 5th Super Six shoot, with scores counting towards the 2019 Suffolk Supreme titles.

Shooting got underway at 4pm, with last years winner Stuart Smith taking to the range. A slight wobble on the first round meant two targets got away, but he made sure on the second and came in with a straight totalling a 48/50. Geoff Howlett would prove to be his nearest rival, after only dropping one target on the first round he was looking in a strong position going onto the second round however he finished on a 46/50 allowing Stuart to take this title again. In Veterans it would be Tony Rogers who took away the honours with a 46/50, and the Junior title would go to his Grandson Jasper Pearce, his first county title, after he shot a 30/50. Ladies saw a good turn out again, with this year’s title going to Anne Phillips who scored 43/50.

Thank you as always to the Eriswell Lodge team, and of course the referees Alan and Adrian who faced the chilly evening to keep everything running. Above (right) are the (County) Championship and Class winners - The full results can be found here.

SKEET DOUBLES Championship - Eriswell Lodge, 19 June

Wednesday 19th June proved to have some changeable weather conditions, with the first couple of squads for the evening heading out in a downpour of rain, and the later squads seeing some much clearer skies.

In the first two squads we saw Stuart Smith and Tosh (Fulton McIntosh) both go out and despite getting soaked through with rain, they both scored a 48 out of a possible 50. Giving them a tied position at the top of the leader board. They would have to wait eagerly to see if they could hold the top spot. In the next squad out, Peter Bloomfield would join them on another 48. As the skies cleared squad 7 headed out, with some top shooters in the line up Andy Gibbs managed to reach the top spot where he stayed for the remainder of the evening with a 49. In Veterans we saw a three-way tie for the top spot, with Adrian Cook completing the line up alongside Tosh and Peter, they headed out for the shoot off where Adrian came out victorious of the title. In juniors young Henry would come out on top again, and in ladies Melissa held on to the title for another year.

Thank you as always to the Eriswell Lodge team, and of course the referees Alan and Dennis who faced the rain to keep everything running! Above (right) are the (County) Championship and Class winners - The full results can be found here.

SINGLE BARREL Championship - Eriswell Lodge, 12 Jun, 19

A rainy Wednesday 12th June saw the Single Barrel DTL Championship, with a great turn out from hardy shooters despite the weather.

Defending his title this evening would be Geoff Howlett, an avid trap shooter but the other shooters were going to chase him down until the final clays to see if they could get their hands on the award. Adrian Cook in veterans was one of them but he couldn’t do quite enough to make it to the top, and settled for the veteran’s trophy after shooting a 47/50. Geoff managed to retain this title again, for the second year running after shooting a 49/50. In ladies it was great to see some competition, the title went to Melissa Smith this year again retaining the title with a 44/50. In Juniors the honours went to Henry Lungley who shot 34/50.

A minute’s silence was also held on this shoot in honour of Richard (Dick) Hails, this was ended with a shotgun salute and it was great to see so many turn out for it.

Thank you goes to the Eriswell Team of staff and referees who worked throughout the evening to keep everything running despite the weather. Above (right) are the (County) Championship and Class winners - The full results can be found here.

DOUBLE RISE Championship - Eriswell Lodge, 5 Jun 2019

The first of the Suffolk evening shoots of 2019 kicked off on the 5th June with the Double Rise championship. With this being a non-registered competition, it was a fun evening for all involved as they headed to the range to shoot 50 targets. With this being a very low turn-out shoot in previous years it was great to see the numbers grow with many shooters who had never tried the discipline.

The first squad of the day saw Stuart Smith head out and shoot 40/50, after finding his feet on a discipline that was entirely new to him. Would the reigning county champion Barry Randall be able to knock him off the top spot? Barry was out in the last squad of the evening, with it being a very close call until the final shots, Barry missed his last target out causing him to fall into 2nd with a 39. Despite there being no category trophies for this shoot, due to the low turnout in previous years, the highest scoring Veteran for the evening was Robbie Manning. The highest Junior was Henry Lungley, and Lady went to Melissa Smith. Congratulations to all of the shooters who attended, and thank you for your continued support in the 2019 season..

Thank you  to the Eriswell Team of staff and referees who worked throughout the day to set this up for the county, and over the evening to keep it running smoothly. Above (right) are the (County) Championship and Class winners - The full results can be found here.

ALL ROUND Championship - Eriswell Lodge, 12 May 2019

Thank you to all those who entered the Suffolk All Round Championship, it was great to see competition across the categories which will make team captain Dennis Meekings job easier when it comes to selecting teams!

With beautiful sunshine on the day we saw a raft of shooters turn out to try their hand for the title. It was great to see numerous of the discipline shooters come and try out an All Round also. Squad 4 saw two high scorers coming in with Chris ‘Puff’ Baker and Andy Gibbs coring 92 and 91 respectively, but with plenty more shooters left out could Chris keep his hold on the top spot? The last squad of the day saw a second 91 come in from Andy Stephenson, so Puff took away the Suffolk County All Round Champion title in 2019!

In veterans we saw some stiff competition, with many of our county top shots falling into this category, this year the honours went to Tony Rogers after he scored 88. In Juniors we had the competition of the colts as Henry Lungley and Jasper Pearce headed out, this year’s title went to Henry after he scored a 72. It is great to see the youngsters in the county coming out to try all the different disciplines! In ladies we again had a great turn out, with the competition again being won by only one target! This year’s ladies title went to Charlotte Patten.

Congratulations to you all and thank you for supporting the county shoots!

Thank you as always goes to Eriswell Lodge and their team of staff and referees who kept the day running. Above (right) are the (County) Championship and Class winners - The full results can be found here.

SKEET Championship - Eriswell Lodge, 05 May 2019

Thank you to all those who entered the Suffolk English Skeet championship today at Eriswell Lodge, and thank you to the Eriswell team and referees for keeping everything running for us!

We saw two shoot offs today, the first was for the Veterans title between Adrian Cook and Bernie Polley after they tied on 95/100, after shooting a straight round of skeet they went to doubles on peg 4 with Bernie coming out victorious.

Our second shoot off was for the Suffolk Champion title and the Mike Bradley memorial trophy. After both shooting a 99/100 Stuart Smith and Daren Parsons continued to then shoot a further full round straight before heading to peg 4 for doubles where Daren let two slip past him letting Stuart swoop in and take the title.

In ladies we saw 5 suffolk ladies compete for the title, which is brilliant to have. Melissa Smith took this title again this year.

In juniors we had the top guns of Henry Bevan and Tom McGregor who are always serious contenders, but today young Henry Lungley came away with the title after shooting a brilliant 93/100.

Thank you goes to the Eriswell Team of staff and referees who worked to keep the day running smoothly. Above (right) are the (County) Championship and Class winners - The full results can be found here.

DTL Championship - Eriswell Lodge, 28 April 2019

On April 28th the Suffolk DTL Championship was held at Eriswell Lodge. The weather made the targets tricky, due to the winds and occasional rain but shooters still managed some impressive scores.

With 25 Suffolk shooters tackling the targets we saw shooters across all categories, something which is brilliant to see and hopefully we can continue this throughout the rest of the shoots this years. On the first squads out last years title holder Stuart Smith took an early lead on the scoreboard with a 95/280, but with the county trap shooters to come it would be hard to make this stick. With Nick Havard heading out later in the day and coming back in with a 98/289 he took control of the top spot, which he would continue to hold onto for the remainder of the shoot taking home this years title. In Veterans Frank Welham stormed to the front of the category with a 99/287 only 2 point behind the county champion! Juniors was won by 13 year old Henry Lungley. Ladies Champion, which this year was competed for by 4 shooters, went to Melissa Smith who shot 88/255. Barry Randall is the team captain for this shoot, and will be in touch with shooters soon to organise his intercounty team!

Thank you goes to the Eriswell Team of staff and referees who worked throughout the weather to keep the day running smoothly. Above (right) are the (County) Championship and Class winners - The full results can be found here.

Sporting Masters - Barrow Sporting Clays, 19 April 2019

Good Friday saw the second Suffolk championship of 2019, with the Sporting Masters at Barrow Sporting Clays.

The beautiful Bank Holiday weather bought many shooters out to play in the glorious sunshine. With 74 of the shooters from Suffolk, there was some tough competition to get their hands on the awards. This years Sporting Masters champion is Aaron Harvey after shooting an incredible 98 out of 100! The ladies title went to Tina Henshaw, this is her first county title so congratulations. Our junior champion this year went to Henry Bevan and our veterans champion went to Chris Willis, both continuing their winning streak from the Sporting Championship.

Special thank you to all the team at Barrow Sporting Clays, including all the staff and referees, who helped the day run smoothly! Above (right) are the (County) Championship and Class winners - The full results can be found here.

Sporting Championship - High Lodge, 31 March 2019

And the winners were - Junior Champion Henry Bevan, Ladies Champion Pauline Chapman and Senior Champion Stuart Smith.

Sunday 31st March saw our first Suffolk Championship shoot of 2019, the Sporting Championship at High Lodge. All were welcomed by some lovely spring sunshine, but the slight wind made sure shooters were kept on their toes.

There was some incredible shooting from the Suffolk shooters, with all four champions being in the scores over 90! A tie in juniors between Henry Bevan and Tom McGregor saw a shoot off for the trophy, Henry came out on top in this one after hitting 8 of the 10 targets.

Thank you to all who turned up today for this championship, our East Midlands sporting team will be selected from the days shooters. Our Team Captain Adrian Cooke will be in contact with those selected soon, if you think you may have made the team scores but are not sure if he has your contact information please send them over to the committee who will be happy to pass them along.

Special thank you to all the team at High Lodge, including all the staff and referees, who helped the day run smoothly! Above (right) are the (County) Championship and Class winners - The full results can be found here.
